The Average Steves

The Average Steves was the underdog "outcast" team of the Duke East 2006 Student Ultimate Tournament. Created by Captain Ted Moreland after he was snubbed by rival team The Cobras, the team put up an amazing fight, going 4-1 before losing to the eventual champions . Known for their "run 'n gun" style, the team put on an amazing show that was compared to that of the Indianapolis Colts or the Phoenix Suns by some spectators. The majority of the team was composed of members of Zach's RAG, including Ted, Bill, Grayson, Brian, Will and Manager Rhett. Other team members included Chelsea, Emma, and Neha (although she never actually played). The team was led in scoring by Captain Ted Moreland and led in assists by Bill. The two formed a sort of Peyton Manning/Marvin Harrison or Steve Nash/Amare Stoudamire combinaton that was lethal to most of their opponents with most of the scoring coming on long bombs by Bill that Ted would run down and catch. The team's biggest shortcoming was on defense, but that is not to say that they didn't have their moments. Often averaging 15-20 knockdowns per game, the defense was led by Chelsea Brown.

Controversy

Manager Rhett was originally supposed to be a member of the team but due to an arm injury that left him in a sling he was denied playtime by the staff. Rhett displayed his frustration in a series of rants that were often mixed in with his pregame pep talks to the team.
