Duke TIP: How to Tell your Age

These are the standard methods of Age Identification on TiP Campus when referring to how long one has been at TiP.

Longhand Version

Years at Specific Campus_Actual Years at TiP_Honorary TiP Age

History

This version of TiP Age is rarely used (probably because of its length and its vaguely confusing), but it is the longhand and very specific version of telling another TiPster how long you've participated at Duke TiP and how long you've been at that specific campus.

Usage

If you are a TiPster who has participated for 3 years from 7th grade to 9th grade and it is your first year at the Texas A&M campus, you would say "I am a 1st year_3rd Year_3rd Year". If you are a TiPster who has participated for 3 years from 8th grade to 10th grade and it is your second year at the Texas A&M campus, you would say "I am a 2nd year_3rd Year_4th Year".

Standard Version

Actual Years at TiP_Honorary TiP Age

History

This version of TiP Age is the standard of telling another TiPster how long you've participated at Duke TiP and how which year you're supposed to be .

Usage

If you are a TiPster who has participated for 2 years from 7th grade to 8th grade, you would say "'I am a 2nd Year_2nd Year". If you are a TiPster who has participated for 2 years from 7th grade to 9th grade and then returned in 10th grade for your fourth year (making a total of 3 participating years), You would say "I am a 3rd Year_4th Year".

Shorthand Version

Honorary TiP Age

History

This version of TiP Age is the "official" year given to a TiPster based upon what grade they are in.

Usage

If you are a TiPster who has participated for 2 years from 8th grade to 10th grade, you would say "'I am a 4th Year.". If you are a TiPster who has participated for 1 year in 7th grade and then returned in 9th grade, skipping 8th grade TiP, You would say "I am a 3rd Year." This usage pertains solely to grade and not amount of time in the program.
