Dance Themes

Dances are a big tradition, for every Friday (and the last Thursday) one is held. The themes are publicized via posters before the dances, but matching costumes are rare at some campuses. Appropriate songs are supposed to be played, and (occasionally) are. Decorations sometimes match. And though the exact name may vary, the last dance is most usually formal (Prom, Gala, Masquerade, etc.), prompting many TIPsters to dress up.

Many TIPsters look forward to these dances predominantly to find a RelationTIP, as there are about four slow songs played every dance. Campuses differ in whether or not RCs care about NTP slow-dancing, but a plastic baseball bat is not uncommon to remind us to 'leave room for' Obama, Jesus, the OSD, etc.

Past Dance Themes

Austin College

2014

Term II

  1. Beauty and the Geek. Dressed as a geek, or a beauty.
  2. Toga Party. Use a bedsheet as a toga, decorated with Grecian columns.
  3. Classy VS Tacky. Near the end of the dance, those who dressed as classy danced to a jazz song, while tack danced to "Tacky" by Weird Al. In the end, Tacky won. Celebrity mascot for "tacky" was Miley Cyrus, many TIPsters report feeling 'threatened' by the carboard cutout, and at one point she was knocked down from the stage.

2013

Term II

  1. Red, White, and Boogie. All people wore red, white, and blue.
  2. Neon Dance. TIPsters and staff wore bright colors and played with glowsticks.
  3. Black and White Dance. People wore their most formal clothes and, those who had attended Swing Dancing showed their skills.
