Roll Call

Roll Call is an activity formerly held at Texas A&M, that is now held at Rice University. Similarly to TIPsync, it's a competition in which each RC group must prepare an elaborate dance to a preassigned song and showcase it to the entire TIP staff and campers. The difference from TIPsync is that tipsters aren't required to lip sync their song and songs must be performed as an RC group. A TA usually emcees the ceremony, providing entertainment during the time between acts. During long breaks between acts or when judges are making their decisions, TIPsters are encouraged to come up and tell jokes. In 2008, some TIPsters were asked to do impressions of their RC's and Instructors. This was shortly thereafter disbanded due to the non-tipropriateness of the acts. Songs selected have ranged from recent hits to ageless classics. Male RC groups usually get songs sung by female artists and female RC groups usually get songs by male artists. In the case of alternatively gendered songs, cross-dressing may occur. However, cross dressing is supposedly banned TiP-wide as of 2015 and would result in disqualification. While some tipsters were upset about the new ban, many upheld and understood the rule as trans people are gaining more recognition and respect.

Rice University

Term 1 2016 consisted of

First place- Christian's RC group "Chickees" performing "Problem" by Ariana Grande that featured choreography by LK Hagy. The cast included Sharon Anwana as Iggy, Sophia as Big Sean, and LK as Ariana Grande with a special performance by Christian as the group's RC who caught them after lights out having a dance party. Sharon's rap part was EPIC. Second place- Holden's RC group "Holden's Hooligans (Hoes)". This performance featured Nicolas Villamil with a stuffed dinosaur, Roman Ruiz in a dinosaur onesie, Ben Morales-Knight tossing a crown (like Mean Girls), Alex Palma playing the sax, and Jack Weisenborn playing something too. It was really funny and slightly not-tippropriate. Third place- IDK I forgot

Term II 2014 consisted of

First place - Autumn's RC performing Rude by MAGIC! in which a princess was greeted and courted by several, distinct groups of suitors who were subsequently turned away by her father the king. In the end, the princess chose her maid, involving a gay #plottwist. 2014 was also the last year cross dressing was allowed to be used as a part of any performance.

Term II 2015 consisted of

First Place - Slice by Aria's RC group. Originally Aria's group was going to perform "I Don't Dance" from High School Musical 2; however, during practice they realized how bad and embarrassing the performance would look. They then thought about just walking onstage and sitting down, proving that they really would not and could not dance. Shortly thereafter they decided that would be a crappy thing to do for their 4th year. Cat Hannahs subsequently suggested Slice which was a song that reminded her of TiP and they decided to go through their experiences. Although many 4th year RC groups choose to do this, the group must make their choreography unique if they want to place. During their performance many tears were shed, not only by Aria's girls but by audience members. Second Place - Counting Stars Remix by Lil' Maggie's RC group. Choreography by Maggie's 2nd and 3rd years. The girls' synchronization put them over the top. Third Place - NOW That's What I Call Polka! by Rashad's RC group. A very good and cute performance by the 2nd and 3rd year members of RaSquad. Pleased the crowd.

Additionally, entertainment was provided in between performances
